Caramba, só agora? Pois é, demorou, mas vamos à segunda parte do nosso post sobre as profissões relacionadas ao desenvolvimento de automóveis. Dessa vez, daremos uma geral nos caminhos ideais para quem é brasileiro, pretende ser designer ou engenheiro automotivo, e não desiste nunca!
Se você não leu o post anterior e está com preguiça, vamos a um resumo bem curto do que foi falado: a indústria da mobilidade brasileira nunca precisou tão desesperadamente de novos profissionais. Na verdade, não apenas novos, mas qualificados, e não apenas nas linhas de produção, mas principalmente nos setores de engenharia e design, ou seja, no desenvolvimento de novos produtos.
A situação mais crítica se encontra na engenharia. Por causa de uma série de fatores complementares – a hibernação tecnológica e produtiva que durou décadas, a falta de vagas atraentes nas indústrias, a dificuldade em completar um curso de engenharia de qualidade e a falta de interesse das gerações mais novas em seguir carreira no setor – a quantidade de engenheiros no Brasil hoje está muito aquém das necessidades de um país em ritmo acelerado de crescimento.
Por outro lado, como pudemos ver nos comentários do primeiro post da série, as exigências das empresas que querem contratar engenheiros mecânicos são enormes, e deixam de fora muita gente boa que gostaria de trabalhar na área. Este texto, portanto, é direcionado especialmente para quem não chegou nos 20 anos e ainda pode escolher com certa tranquilidade o que quer fazer da vida.
O primeiro passo é escolher uma faculdade que trate com cuidado o tema Automóvel. Temos nomes com prestígio reconhecido (FEI, Mauá, Poli-USP, USP-São Carlos, Unicamp, CEFET-MG, UFSC, várias PUCs e Universidades Federais), algumas inclusive com graduação já especializada na área automotiva. A maioria, porém, oferece um curso de engenharia mecânica mais geral, ficando a critério do aluno procurar se envolver mais nos assuntos que mais lhe fascinam.
Uma dica recomendada por todos é sempre conferir quais instituições participam das duas principais competições estudantis do gênero, o Baja SAE e a Fórmula SAE. A lista dos competidores – e dos vencedores – mostra quais faculdades e universidades possuem um núcleo específico para alunos que sonham em construir carros.

Ela é contínua desde a interação com a família, com as pessoas ao redor, outras culturas e países, com o quanto ele leu e se interessou pelas coisas”, diz Albertin, realçando o fato de que hoje, com a interdependência entre os mercados e os centros de desenvolvimento, o que as empresas precisam é de cidadãos do mundo.
Mas e se você se enquadra numa situação sócio-econômica que não permite cultivar essa bagagem? E se a ideia de cursar uma faculdade de engenharia mecânica que dura no mínimo 5 anos para só depois começar a trabalhar na área parece muito distante do alcance do seu bolso? Nesse caso, o caminho pode estar em um ensino médio profissionalizante, principalmente os oferecidos pelo SENAI na área automotiva.
Estes cursos são bastante concorridos hoje em dia, e seus alunos de destaque também conseguem facilmente vagas de emprego em grandes indústrias. A partir daí, o caminho para cursar uma faculdade já tendo trabalho no setor fica mais fácil – e se você acha que esta é uma alternativa restrita a quem não possui muita ambição, está enganado: na vida profissional, o que mais vale definitivamente é a vontade de aprender e a vocação para lidar com a engenharia.
Além disso, a escassez de profissionais é geral nos três degraus da pirâmide da indústria automotiva: os engenheiros com mestrado e doutorado, os engenheiros de formação menos elaborada e os técnicos que formam a base dessa estrutura. “A falta de técnicos acentua a falta de engenheiros, e nada impede um jovem tecnólogo de seguir seus interesses, conseguir destaque no trabalho e rumar para o destino que quiser”, completa o diretor de conhecimento da SAE.

Aposto que a maioria dos leitores aqui já matou tempo desenhando carros na sala de aula. E quem nunca viu um facelift monstruoso e pensou “Jesuis, até eu faria melhor”? O designer automotivo é alguém que cultivou esses desejos visuais em um nível quase obsessivo desde muito cedo. Infelizmente, não há no país nenhuma graduação especializada nesse tipo de trabalho.
Resta ao estudante cursar Desenho Industrial nas instituições mais renomadas, e procurar pôr em prática seus interesses a respeito de automóveis e veículos de transporte em geral. Vamos citar algumas das principais: FAAP, Mackenzie, Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), Belas Artes, Mauá, Unesp, as PUCs, UEMG, UERJ, Fumec… Numa etapa posterior, há duas opções de especialização no Brasil: o curso de extensão em Design da Mobilidade na FAAP e o curso master em Transportation Design no IED, ambos em São Paulo, e ambos com participação maciça de profissionais do mercado nas aulas e projetos em classe.
Apesar da demanda por designers não ser tão urgente quanto a que ocorre entre os engenheiros, ela também impressiona bastante. Coordenador do curso do IED, André Marcolino conta que já recebeu um pedido de recrutamento de jovens talentos em universidades por parte de uma multinacional. Os escolhidos foram enviados para a Europa em busca de mais experiência internacional antes de retornarem ao Brasil para o trabalho de fato.
Marcolino também faz questão de destacar a amplitude desse tipo de formação, e o tamanho do mercado para além do emprego nos fabricantes mais conhecidos. “Existe um mercado de autopeças fabuloso, genial, indústrias incríveis que precisam de profissionais para criar rodas, bancos, painéis, tecidos, peças de acabamento e tudo mais”, explica. Outro setor bastante próspero tanto para designers quanto para engenheiros: os fabricantes de ônibus que conseguiram tornar o Brasil o maior produtor desse tipo de veículo no mundo.
Quer exemplos de gente bem-sucedida lá fora? Raul Pires é chefe de design exterior da Bentley. Os irmãos gêmeos Marco Antônio e José Carlos Pavone são dois importantes designers da Volkswagen em Wolfsburg. Vários engenheiros mecânicos brasileiros lideram equipes em matrizes na Europa.
