O novo chassi Dallara, totalmente produzido em fibra de carbono em uma nova fábrica em Indianápolis, vai acelerar a partir da temporada 2012. Pesa 84 quilos a menos que o atual e ainda que não tenha sido radicalmente reestilizado, com certeza não será confundido com o modelo atual.
Os novos carros terão uma maior liberdade de configurações aerodinâmicas, permitindo que as equipes modifiquem o carro de uma maneira mais aprofundada que o permitido atualmente. O que ainda não foi definido é o fornecedor de motores. A IRL espera conseguir vários fornecedores para combater as críticas de que o esporte se tornou uma categoria de um carro só, mas nada está definido ainda.
